For Gozdnik, the offline field guide to Slovenia's plants and mushrooms
Gozdnik is for general interest and learning only. It is not a foraging-safety or medical guide, and misidentified plants or mushrooms can kill. Never use it to decide whether anything is safe to eat, touch or give to anyone. If you forage, do it with a qualified expert and have every find checked in person. In any suspected poisoning, call 112 immediately.
Gozdnik collects no personal data. There is no account, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and nothing to buy; the app requests no Android permissions and never opens a network connection. What you look up and bookmark stays on your handset.
Gozdnik is made and published by AP Frelih d.o.o., a company registered in Slovenia, which releases its apps under the name NovaWillow Interactive. Under the General Data Protection Regulation and Slovenia's Personal Data Protection Act (ZVOP-2), that company would be the controller for any personal data the app processed. It processes none, so the role stays empty.

Many nature apps offer to name a species from a photograph, which means a camera permission and usually an upload to a remote service. Gozdnik has neither, deliberately. It cannot take or read photos, cannot identify anything in front of you, and will never tell you that a specimen in your hand is safe. That judgement belongs to a person with the specimen in front of them, not to software.
There is no location permission and no position derived from the network. Habitat and altitude information in the entries describes the kinds of places a species grows, not your own route, and the app keeps no record of where you walked or what you looked up on the way. For people who forage, a map of their spots is valuable and private; there is no such map here.
A single small file in the app's private storage, holding only what you chose to keep:
Nothing in it identifies you: no name, email address, contacts, photos, location, advertising identifier or device identifier. The file never leaves the phone and we never see it.
No page view is counted, no reading time is measured, and nothing typed into the search box is stored or transmitted. There is no history screen because there is no history. A list of which toxic species someone has been reading about is exactly the sort of record that should not exist casually, and it does not exist here.
Every species page in Slovenian and English, the photographs, the look-alike comparisons, the season filter and the glossary are compiled into the app. Nothing is fetched while you read, and no page loads on demand — which is why the app opens the same on a ridge with no signal as it does at home.
Where an entry says a species is considered edible, poisonous or deadly, that is a summary of published sources for general interest. It is not an assurance about any individual specimen, which may be a look-alike, may be contaminated, may be in poor condition, or may affect a particular person differently. Nothing in the app is medical advice, and nothing in it is a substitute for an expert examining the actual find.
No advertising library, so no advert sits next to a species page and no advertising profile is built from what you read. No analytics library and no crash reporter, so no usage events, session logs or crash traces leave the handset. No billing library, so no species, habitat or glossary section sits behind a price, and no payment data exists. No account, no sync, no community sightings, no sharing.
Gozdnik requests no Android runtime permissions: not camera, microphone, location, contacts, storage or notifications.
None. The app opens no connection to our servers or to anyone else's, so nothing leaves the handset to be intercepted and nothing arrives that could change its behaviour after installation.
Installing or updating Gozdnik is a transaction between you and Google, handled under Google's own privacy policy and its agreement with you. What reaches us is the aggregated, anonymous developer console view — installs, ratings, country totals — which identifies nobody.
If a future version ever touches the network, this page is rewritten before that version is published and the change stated plainly.
Children are often the people most curious about what grows in a wood, and the most likely to put something in their mouth. The app contains nothing unsuitable to read, and collects nothing from anyone — but please make sure younger readers understand the warning at the top of this page. No child should pick, taste or handle a wild plant or mushroom because an app has a picture of it.
The General Data Protection Regulation and ZVOP-2 give you the right to ask whether your personal data is processed, obtain a copy, have it corrected or erased, restrict or object to processing, and complain to a supervisory authority. Every one of those needs data in our hands, and there is none — we will confirm that in writing if it is useful for your records.
Your bookmarks are removed by clearing them in the app, clearing the app's data in Android settings, or uninstalling Gozdnik. No copy survives anywhere else, because none was ever made.
Complaints may be addressed to the Information Commissioner of the Republic of Slovenia (Informacijski pooblaščenec, ip-rs.si) or to the supervisory authority where you live, though a note to us usually settles things sooner.
This page is updated only when the app changes in a way that affects privacy, and the date near the top changes with it. Builds already installed keep behaving exactly as described.
An entry that reads oddly in Slovenian, a photograph you think shows the wrong species, a privacy question: gozd@apfrelih.forum, read by the person who wrote the app, usually answered within a couple of days. We cannot identify specimens by email, and will not try. Pišete lahko tudi v slovenščini.
