A forest floor two hours above the last village, a meadow on a ridge, a clearing where the path gives out — this is where a question about what is growing comes up, and where a phone stops being able to answer one. A guide that fetches its pages on demand fails at exactly that moment.

Field Guide to Alpine Plants & Mushrooms
Gozdnik is not a foraging-safety or medical guide. Many deadly mushrooms and plants look very like edible ones, and some cause no symptoms until the damage is already done. An "edible" label in any book or app is not permission to eat something you picked. If you forage, go with a qualified expert and have every find checked in person. If you suspect poisoning, contact emergency services at once — in Slovenia, call 112.

Why spring arrives late on the mountain
No species, no identification and nothing about eating — this is the reason the app's season filter has to care about altitude. Climb, and it gets colder at roughly 0.65 °C per hundred metres. A century-old rule of thumb, Hopkins' bioclimatic law, puts the resulting delay at about four days for every 400 feet, or 122 metres. Set the valley and the meadow, and see how far behind the mountain runs.
A slope, three sliders and no species — this bench cannot tell you what anything is, let alone whether to touch it. Gozdnik is the part that describes what grows up there and when, for learning, entirely on your handset.
